Sensory Garden
What is a sensory garden?
Most gardens offer an aesthetic experience, but a sensory garden stimulates all the senses. Featured plants and the use of materials will be chosen to engage the visitors’ senses of sight, smell, touch, taste, and sound. These types of gardens are popular with and beneficial to both children and adults, especially those who have sensory processing issues.
The aim of the garden
is to be a place where adults and children can explore their senses and learn about the environment around them.
It is intended to attract both locals and visitors. It will also be a focal point for the Tisbury Memory Group’s activities and social events.
The Garden can be found on the left-hand side of the walkway from Hinton Hall car park to the railway station.
The plot is flat so there is easy access for older people, wheelchair users and parents with pushchairs and prams. In honour of our gracious donor, the plot of land is known as Guy’s Patch.

The garden has been designed to engage the senses. Plants are chosen so that there is a range of colour changes throughout the seasons. In the future, it is hoped to introduce the use of wind-activated features. There are herbs and edible flowers available for tasting along with scented plants to engulf your sense of smell.
New benches have recently been added to the plot as it’s important that visitors have the opportunity to sit and enjoy what is on offer as well as the beautiful landscape beyond.
The atmosphere will be created not only by the vegetation but by making it a habitat for local wildlife residents too. The river follows the curvature of the plot, and the aim is to encourage ducks by the placement of a duck ark at the edge of the river and other wildlife to visit the garden.
We need YOU: The garden requires continual weeding and tidying as well as renewing plants. If you have some time to spare, we would love you to join our Team who take great pride in the delights of Guy’s Patch.
