Back to the Future - a very Ancient one!

Tisbury Memory Group had a truly special experience this week. We received an outreach visit from the Ancient Technology Centre in Cranborne, Dorset  www.ancienttechnologycentre.com/. It was their first to an adult group.  History was brought to life in a way that was both immersive and engrossing, sparking non-stop discussion amongst all of us.

The team from the Centre arrived with a fascinating selection of historical artefacts, tools, and materials, giving everyone the chance to see, touch and try on objects from the past and even learn some traditional skills. From wood/stone axes to metal helmets, a chainmail garment, hand-woven textiles and looms, each object had a story to tell and it was brilliant to be connecting as a Group with these tangible links to history.

For some, the session ignited curiosity about how people in ancient times lived and worked, while others enjoyed the opportunity to explore the unfamiliar artefacts and materials and the process involved in making them.

The relaxed, interactive approach created a lively atmosphere, full of interest and engagement, making for a truly uplifting morning.

We are so grateful to the Ancient Technology Centre team for their time, enthusiasm, and expertise. Their visit reminded us of the power of history. It isn't just something to study but, as this visit proved, history can also be a way to connect, jump-start conversations, and bring fresh inspiration.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and took part. We look forward to welcoming back the Centre soon - though we must admit that, even if improbable, top of our TMG wish list is a Group outing to Cranborne so we could all experience everything on offer, in situ!
